Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a PDF to images?

Simply drag and drop your PDF files into PDFinity, or click the "Add Files" button to select them. Choose your desired output format (PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, or GIF), adjust any settings like DPI or page range, then click "Convert Selected PDFs".

Where are my converted files saved?

By default, PDFinity saves converted files to ~/Documents/PDF Conversions/. Each conversion creates a new folder named after your PDF file, containing all the converted images.

Can I convert specific pages only?

Yes! In the conversion settings, you can specify page ranges using formats like 1-3, 5, 7-10. Leave it blank to convert all pages.

What's the maximum DPI I can use?

PDFinity supports DPI settings from 72 to 600. Higher DPI values produce better quality images but larger file sizes. For most uses, 150-300 DPI provides excellent quality.

Can I convert multiple PDFs at once?

Absolutely! PDFinity supports batch conversion. Add multiple PDFs to the list, select the ones you want to convert (or use "Select All"), and click "Convert Selected PDFs".

Does PDFinity work offline?

Yes, PDFinity works completely offline. All conversions happen locally on your Mac without requiring an internet connection.

Troubleshooting

PDFinity won't open

Ensure you're running macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later
Check that the app is properly installed in your Applications folder
Try restarting your Mac
If the issue persists, try reinstalling PDFinity from the Mac App Store

Conversion fails or produces empty images

Verify the PDF file isn't corrupted by opening it in Preview
Check if the PDF is password-protected (PDFinity cannot convert protected PDFs)
Ensure you have sufficient disk space for the converted images
Try converting with a lower DPI setting

App crashes during conversion

Large PDFs may require more memory - try converting fewer pages at once
Close other applications to free up system resources
Update to the latest version of PDFinity from the Mac App Store
Send us the crash report via email for investigation
